From today's Bible reading: 2 Chronicles 20:12, in which Jehoshaphat, learning that Judah is about to be invaded by Moab and Ammon, prays to the LORD:
"We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you."
I'm reminded of a scene in a movie in which a warship is ambushed by the enemy. The ship's 2nd in command turns to the ship's captain and sees that he has been killed. He then notices that every other person in the control room is looking at him expectantly.
It's comforting to have someone else I can turn to expectantly when things get tense. But my level of comfort is determined not just by the other's abilities, it is also determined by my trust in him
God is in total control of everything. He never has to react to a situation because the situation is part of His proactive plan of redemption. This is what I need to remember at all times as I turn trustingly to Him for my marching orders.
